The Red Mare Chardonnay comes from the unique Mill Station Vineyard, owned and farmed by the Dutton family in the Russian River Valley. It is a slightly cooler site with a long history. The vines that we take our fruit from are at least 40 years old, of a long forgotten clone and completely dry farmed. Planted in the famed Goldridge soils, the results of these vines struggling with their great age is a concentrated, dynamic wine.
Delicate aromas of lightly perfumed apple blossom, dried apricot, Asian pear and hard candy, mingled with characters of clotted cream, dark vanilla and and wet stone. In the mouth it is quite viscous and the minerality comes through beautifully. It has a long and full mouth feel with a finish of ripe fruit that rounds out the wine beautifully.
